I can finally say where I’m going to be this summer: Boone, North Carolina. Now, if I had to choose a city, Boone would probably near the bottom of my list. I’m not really into the nature element that Boone advertises and it’s at least two hours from Charlotte, the nearest metropolis. However, with the opportunity to intern with Samaritan’s Purse, Boone is now my #1 choice. This summer, I’ll have my first “big boy” internship with a chance to work towards a job in the future.
From the first day of June until the 7th of August I’ll be in an unfamiliar town with a host family I’ve never met before. I have to wear a shirt and tie everyday (I only own 5 of each). It’s my first 9-to-5 job and sometimes my attention isn’t steady enough to sit at a desk or in a cubicle for that long. With all fears aside, I’m nervously excited to begin working with Samaritan’s Purse. In the interview for the position, they promised me three tasks, of which, I felt qualified for: writing for media, graphic design, and voiceover work. When the call came that I was the top candidate for the position, I couldn’t help but wonder how a small-town boy from Ohio made it this far. Be sure to check back for more updates as the summer progresses.
